udith was born in August 1926 in Transylvania, Romania, into a Hasidic family. She was a student when the Nazis invaded. In 1940, Hitler gave Transylvania to Hungary, and under Hungarian rule, antisemitism grew significantly.
In 1944, Judith and her family were first sent to a ghetto and shortly after, transported to Auschwitz in cattle cars. Upon arrival, Judith and her sister were initially selected for labor.
