Hannah Holsten lived a normal life in Nuremberg, Germany in 1938 with her mother, father, sister, and brother—until Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, when everything changed. The Nazis destroyed everything the family owned, and Hannah, along with her parents and siblings, was rounded up and placed in an overnight jail.

The next morning marked the beginning of a harrowing two-year journey for Hannah, as the family fled from the Nazis, traveling all over Europe. At one point, they were even hidden by smugglers. Hannah’s story is marked by moments of unbelievable luck and survival in the face of terror.

Today, Hannah shares her story to ensure that the horrors of the Shoah, the Holocaust, are never forgotten. She now lives in Hartsdale and has been blessed with three children, ten grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
