Elza was born Nov 29, 1928, in Jaroslov, Poland. Her father was a tailor, her mother a housekeeper. Elza went to school for three years. In the 1930s, she heard Nazi rumors. One day, they had an hour to leave their home.

They fled to the cold woods between the Urals and Siberia. Her father was drafted. Her mother cared for four children. They survived on one potato for six people. Despite harsh winters, Elza went to school.

Her mother woke neighbors so they could walk safely. After the war, Stalin let them leave Russia. They tried Poland, but left due to antisemitism. They moved to Austria, then a DP camp in Munich.

In 1952, Elza, married, arrived in America with two children. Her sister Wanda was in Nebraska. Her brothers and parents went to Israel. Relatives went to Costa Rica, Canada, and Argentina.
In 1956, Elza briefly moved to Real, then returned to America in 1957. They rebuilt their lives.
