Abraham (Abe) Rosenberg was born in 1940 in the Republic of Georgia (USSR) and grew up in the town of Kutaisi. He had a sibling named Ada Gracin. His parents owned two stores that sold curtains, drapes, and bedspreads.

His early schooling took place in a displaced persons camp, and he also attended a cheder. As he was not alive during Kristallnacht, he has no memories of that event. After liberation, he lived with his aunt and uncle for two years. From 1945 to 1949, he resided in a camp called Feldafing, which was under American army control.
